At first a baby piglet,
with small snout, hooves, and ears,
who cuddled, snuggled, rooted,
and kept away the tears.
You grew and learned assertion,
(or how to get your way),
a small pig still but stonger,
and learning day by day.
We watched you till the garden,
we missed you till the yard,
we helped you root out walnuts,
those hidden much too hard.
You taught us your impatience,
your tastes and dislikes too,
and helped us learn the proper ways,
to love and pamper you.
With sharp hooves and stiff bristles,
and sometimes muddy skin,
to some you'd seem not pretty,
lest you knew the pig within.
We'll surely always miss you,
your oinks, your looks, your ways,
but we know we'll not forget you,
through all our final days.
